The FASRS is awarded based on criteria that recognizes members in good standing who have demonstrated consistent commitment to the Society, expertise in the management of vitreoretinal disorders, and the highest ethical and professional standards.

The FASRS program is designed to foster professional development among retina specialists and to symbolize the advanced training and specialized care that truly distinguish retina specialists.

Fellow of the ASRS (FASRS) Designation

Criteria for FASRS Designation

Automatic FASRS Designation

At least 5 continuous years as ASRS regular member in good standing

Attendance at 3+ ASRS Annual Meetings during any 6-year period prior to awarding of the FASRS designation*

Alternate Route to FASRS Designation

At least 3 continuous years as a regular member in good standing

Attendance at 3+ ASRS Annual Meetings during any 6-year period prior to awarding of the FASRS designation


*Attendance at the ASRS Business of Retina Meeting can substitute for attendance at up to one ASRS Annual Meeting

FASRS Maintenance Criteria

Continuous status as a regular member in good standing. Plus:

Attendance during each 6-year interval (attendance at the ASRS Business of Retina Meeting can substitute for attendance at up to one ASRS Annual Meeting.

Or

Achieving 2 or more points from the following list:

  • 1 point for contribution to an ASRS Annual Meeting or to the ASRS Business of Retina Meeting (paper, poster, course faculty, moderator). Limit of 1 point in any calendar year.

  • 1 point for serving for 2 or more years on an ASRS committee or board.

  • 1 point for an accepted publication in JVRD.

  • 1 point for reviewing 3 or more submissions to JVRD.
